FAQS
What practices should I be aware of in our Industry?
VOA will teach the skills and legitimate practices of the Voice Acting Art. We do not use or solicit Managerial Contracts, Portfolios or Magazines. These are sometimes pushed by profit motivated companies in our Business at exorbitant prices. These “extras” are not required or even expected by casting professionals or Agencies in our industry.
We are not a Photography Studio or Modeling Agency. We do not require Photos or Headshots as a prerequisite for a new student, employ recruiters, or require a purchase of any kind for auditions that are conducted at the studio. Enrollment in VOA courses or any other type of payment to VOA is not a requirement to participate in auditions or be hired for projects.
Do I Have to Produce A Demo with VOA?
At the conclusion of the Voice Over Course, VOA can produce a Demo for any Student, in conjunction with our Award winning Studio, but it is not required. It is a decision each Student can make with no pressure from us. For more information, see our Page on Demos.
Don't you have to be young and sound “neutral” to work?
Today in voice over, “authenticity” is the name of the game – all ages, races, genders, regional accents, dialects, and more are in demand! Casting Directors and businesses are hiring diverse voices to appeal to their vast audiences. So it doesn’t matter how you sound, what matters is that your delivery is real and believable. That’s what we focus on, helping you find your true authentic voice.
What kind of guarantees or placement promises do you make?
No legitimate school will promise a job as a result of their training. Learning to act is an art, and unlike beauty colleges or computer repair courses, no one is ever “placed” in a job. In much the same way, a music teacher trains someone to play the piano, VOA trains students to audition for work in voice-over. We also provide much guidance in the audition process and teach how to successfully audition for work. Success comes after training and persistence.
